On Saturday 6th March, many Melbourne suburbs were deluged by a massive hailstorm, read more via The Age.

‘An organised beast of a storm’ belts city
The super-cell thunderstorm that crossed Melbourne on Saturday severely damaged scores of houses and cars, and huge hail destroyed the roofs of several homes. Severe weather meteorologist Kevin Parkyn said he would probably have to go back to early last century to find another Melbourne storm that packed 10-centimetre hailstones.

Needless to mention, the storm was a very disconcerting experience in both the cafe & bike shop, as we have several large skylights. At first the wind gusts & hail forced opened both doors, hit the front windows under the street awning, then we all watched nervously as the water level crept up the footpath. Thankfully the water stayed at bay and the skylights all held together under a deafening barrage of huge hail stones & no obvious damage was found. The cafe had a small lake appear courtesy of a old blocked off chimney in our gallery area, but it was swiftly mopped up. We hope everyone else around Thornbury got off lightly and you’re all safe and secure. ;)
